Блиц-интервью с Риком Уивером

Have you ever been to Moscow?
I’ve worked with clients in over 50 countries in the world – but this is my first trip to Moscow.

What are your expectations on Software People 2009?
When I first saw the focus of Software People 2009 was on People, Process, and Projects, I knew this was a conference focusing on the right things. I knew I HAD to come to this event. I’ve been in Software development for close to 20 years and these topics are the right ones to help improve how we do software development.

Your vision on further ALM-technology development: IBM applications vs Open-Source solutions.
My vision of ALM is very similar to how the internet works today. The internet is immensely scalable, has the ability to integrate and link disparate information together, and have powerful ways to search and index. ALM (in the software development sense) should be the same.

In terms of open source, I view the IBM strategy and open source very complementary. IBM has been a champion of open source and open standards (especially in software delivery) – Our work with Eclipse, UML, BPMN and the work we are doing with Jazz (www.jazz.net) and integration into other open source initiatives are just a few examples.

What is “human element” in project management for you?
Humans are extremely important! One popular saying is that “People, not Organizations, build great software”. This is extremely true. We are living in a world where Geographically Distributed Development is the norm – we have to collaborate together effectively. When I first started software development 20 years ago, my entire team was located in the same building. Times have changed – we are very distributed in development today, but the need for “humans” to collaborate in a geographically distributed world is as vital as ever.

Your advice to modern Software People.
Collaborate, collaborate, collaborate. Being able to collaborate helps drive us be successful in software development. Even Agile development processes like Scrum feature collaboration as a key parts of the methodology. With the phenomenal growth of social networking around the world, it is clear that collaboration is vital for all of us to succeed.

Довольно интересно конечно. Я немогу подписаться под каждым вашим словом, но в общем соглашусь.
